Research and Academic Interests

I received the BSc. degree in Biological Sciences from the Catholic University of Minas Gerais, the MSc. degree in Ecology, Conservation and Wildlife Management from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, and the PhD. Degree in Forestry Engineering from the Universidade Federal de Lavras. I am a professor of the Department of General Biology of the Universidade Estadual de Montes Claros – UNIMONTES. My research interests are focused on floristic composition and structure of cerrado and tropical dry and rain forests, in order to understand the natural regeneration of these different ecosystems. My projects also include the determination of germination rates of several native trees, aiming to verify their viability for restoration of degraded areas. In the tropical dry forests of Minas Gerais, I will investigate seedling colonization dynamics in different sucessional stages along five years and verify how this process is influenced by biotic and abiotic factors.
